thursday last i had the opportunity to attend an ASID* meeting at drumborg castle...
drumborg castle is something else...now i'm not a big fan of something pretending to be something that its not...its all fine and well taking inspiration from something but trying to recreate something...ah its just not for me...
i like reinterpretations and modern updates on an older notion...but i soon forgot that when i was inside...the craftsmanship and the workmanship that went into the details of the interior are outstanding...
while architectural inspiration was taken from ancient european castles and ancient seats...the architectural design was created in collaboration with a noted classicist...maybe thats what threw me...the idea that a castle could be derived from a classicist notion...???...!!! drumborg castle was designed by Robert Sharp, architect right here in Fayetteville, Arkansas...
while i may not be drumborgs biggest fan...it was great to get a chance to see inside this building, and to meet with other designers in the north west arkansas area...the 'ceu'** was also very insightful, it was nice to reacquaint myself the classical orders of architecture...
a tour of the castle included a trip to the garage or 'man pad'...complete with sting ray...
my first 'ceu' certificate from the ASID...
* ASID - American Society of Interior Designers...
** 'ceu' - Continuing Educational Development...

The Neal Creek residence treads lightly upon its surroundings, maximizing valley and water views with minimal impact to the natural environment. The owners - windsurfing and snowboarding enthusiasts - were interested in a modest home that would be highly efficient and ecologically minded.
'ped' - great to see a new visitor to custardbydesign...
the neal creek residence sounds like it was built with a sympathetic nudge to its surroundings...
i'm off to google to see if i can find it...
