its big...

its the burj dubai...and its big...!!!

for the first time today, the burj dubai's height has been revealed at 828m high...with 160 storeys, it surpasses the tower 101 in taipei at 508m and the 'kvly-tv' mast in north dakota at 629m...

it boasts the worlds biggest water fountain...it hosts the worlds highest swimming pool at 260m in the air on floor 76...

there are plans for it to house the world's highest place of worship at floor 158...how pius...!!!

and the worlds highest bar will be a few floors down...

the developers have every confidence in the safety of the tower...it has air-conditioned, pressurised and fire-resistant refuge floors at 25 storey intervals...its reinforced concrete structure makes it stronger than steel-frame skyscrapers...

the centerpiece of a $20 billion downtown dubai project, the burj dubai includes 37 office floors, 1,044 apartments and 160 hotel room s designed by giorgio armani...

all very well it looks and it boasts of wonderous achievements in terms of building size and scale...but here's my queries...

i'm wondering how green and sustainable this building is...???

i'm wondering also where the rationale lies in creating a symbol of power in the middle of the desert...albeit a desert of glass and concrete...!!!

does it look that great...??? no more a modern age pyramid of sorts built from glass and steel rising to the gods if you ask me...you can dress that up if you like with blurb about concept and patterning systems embodied in islamic architecture and triple-lobed footprints inspired by flowers...but it still looks a little bit ordinary to me..!!!

imagine when you are standing on the 160th floor of the burj dubai - what will you feel...??? excited...dizzy...worried...scared...overwhelmed...!!!

while it may be wondrous and it may be big and spectacular and amazing...and while i may not be its biggest fan...i am hanging to see what georgio armani has created for the interior of the armani hotel within...
